This perfume dated to 1370 is the earliest recorded perfume from Medieval Europe. Made for Queen Elizabeth of Hungary, the original recipe called for flowering rosemary tips, sweetened with lemon balm and lavender.
Variations appeared in European books of distillation for the next 500 years, and they all featured rosemary as the main note, sweetened with herbs and flowers native to European gardens.
We make this perfume with our own tincture of lemon balm! Perfume from lemon balm is precious due to the low yield of aromatic compounds.
