A brilliant red cosmetic from the Trois Livres De L’Embellissement Et Ornement Du Corps Humain. French texts, published in 1595, whose title translates to Three Books on the Beautification and Ornament of the Human Body.
Here we discovered a recipe of almond oil, white wax, nutmeg oil, and vermilion. The wax and pigment proportions of the original suggest it is similar to a modern red lipstick! An opaque, high precision red cosmetic that could potentially be used on lips, or blended into other cosmetics at the lady’s discretion.
Since cinnabar is toxic, we use a blend of modern cosmetic grade pigments to obtain a rich red, like the color of a ripe “Love Apple”! (tomato).
Like the original, this is a highly pigmented, very firm rouge. Warm the rouge under your fingertip or upon an applicator, and paint your lips with brilliant, long-lasting color! Alluring vivid red with slight orange tones. Remove with soap and water, or oil. Not for use on eyes.
